The basic components of a home theater are a TV or display, surround sound speakers, and a video source such as a cable box, DVR, Blu-ray player, or game console. In addition, you will need some type of audio/video receiver to connect all the components and route the signals to the correct speakers. For the best possible picture quality, it's recommended to have a HDTV with either 1080p or 4K resolution. The number of surround sound speakers you use is up to your own personal preference. Some people are happy with just 5.1 or 7.1 channels while others who like to be really enveloped in the action might go for 9.2 or 11.2 channels.
