Simple Solutions for Maintaining Your Stone Siding

Stains:

If your stone siding has become stained, the first thing you should do is identify the type of stain. This will determine the best way to remove it.

There are three types of stains: water-based, oil-based, and organic. Water-based stains are the easiest to remove. All you need is a power washer and some detergent.

Oil-based stains are a bit more difficult to remove. You will need a degreaser and a stiff brush. Organic stains, such as mildew or moss, can be removed with a bleach solution.

Once you have identified the type of stain, follow the steps below to remove it:

1) If using a power washer, start by wetting down the area with the stain. This will help prevent the pressure from damage the stone.

2) Mix the detergent and water in the power washer’s tank.

3) Turn on the power washer and hold it about 6 inches away from the stain.

4) Move the power washer back and forth until the stain is gone.

5) Rinse the area with clean water.

7) Apply the degreaser to the stain with a brush.

8) Scrub the area until the stain is gone.

9) Rinse with clean water.
