  • To estimate framing, you'll want to measure the distance between the two outer points of your picture's frame. Once you have that measurement, simply divide it by 2 to get the center of your picture's frame. From there, measure the height and width of your picture and use a calculator to determine the percentage of the picture that will be covered by the frame. For example, if your picture measures 8"x10", and you're using a 1"x2" frame, your framing would be 10% (1"/10"). If you're using a 3"x4" frame, your framing would be 25% (3"/12"). Keep in mind that when measuring for a frame.

One way to estimate framing is to calculate the percentage of a photo that is covered by the subject. For example, if the subject takes up 25% of the photo, then you would frame the photo so that the subject takes up 25% of the total frame. Another way to estimate framing is to imagine a grid that overlays your photo and then position the subject within those lines.
