How do you tell if the dryer vent is clogged?

My dryer hasn't customarily been functioning for quite a few days. Could it be clogged? How can you tell when the dryer vent is clogged?

  • Yes, it's possible the dryer vent is clogged. Here are some ways to tell: -The dryer takes a long time to dry clothes -The dryer turns off before the clothes are fully dried -The clothes come out of the dryer hot but still damp -You can see lint or debris buildup around the vent opening or in the ducting -The exhaust from the dryer smells bad If you suspect your vent is clogged, you can try cleaning it yourself with a vacuum cleaner or brush. If that doesn't work, you may need to hire a professional to clean it for you.

It's possible that your dryer vent is clogged, which is why it's not drying your clothes properly. You can tell if the vent is clogged by checking to see if the exhaust pipe is hot when the dryer is running. If the exhaust pipe isn't hot, then the vent is probably blocked and needs to be cleaned.
