  • Electric outlets can be installed by anyone with a little know-how and the right tools. The most important part of the process is making sure the power is turned off to the outlet you're working on. Here are the steps:1) Turn off the power to the outlet at your main circuit breaker panel.2) Remove the cover plate from the electrical box.3) Remove the old outlet from the box.4) Disconnect the wires from the old outlet.5) Connect the wires to your new outlet according to their colors (see diagram).6) Push all of your wires into the electrical box, and replace cover plate.

There are a few things you need to take into account when installing an electrical outlet: -The wiring in your house must be up to code. You can check this by checking the labels on the breaker box or by consulting with an electrician. -Outlets should be installed at least 18" away from water sources, such as sinks and baths, and at least 36" away from appliances, such as ovens and refrigerators. -When installing an outlet, it's important to make sure that the plug is able to fit snugly into the outlet. If it doesn't fit snugly, you may have an incorrectly wired outlet or you may need a different type of plug.
