There are three steps: 1. Find the valve that controls the sprinkler head. It's usually located near the broken sprinkler head. 2. Turn off the water to the valve. 3. Repair or replace the sprinkler head.
You can try to fix a broken sprinkler by turning the water off and unscrewing the defective sprinkler. If it is rusted, you may need to use a wrench. If it is not rusted, you can just use your hand. Once the sprinkler is off, take a look inside and see if there is anything obstructing the water flow. Sometimes dirt or other debris will get caught in the mechanism and stop it from working properly. Clean out whatever you find and try screwing the sprinkler back on. If it doesn't work, you may need to replace it with a new one.
